The Role of Nizami Ganjavi’s Image in Understanding National Identity

Nizami Ganjavi is one of the concepts of national identity of the
Azerbaijani people. In all periods of history, the wise intellectuals of our
people have been so sensitive to this concept of national identity that by
giving the name of a great thinker to every concept, place, and object that is
native and national to them, they have fulfilled the historical mission with
honor both in ancient times and in our modern times. Nizami Ganjavi's
native people gave the name “Shikh duzu” (Sheikh plain) to the area
where he lived and was buried, and his mausoleum was visited as a holy
place and shrine by his native people and people who visit our country
for centuries. Consequently, these factors manifest and indicate the abovementioned
concept and approach.
