The concept of gender refers to the socially and culturally constructed
differences between women and men. Gender and role behaviours
are learned and reinforced according to the culture and values of the society.
Thus, men and women are assigned different social responsibilities
in society. Although there is no grammatical gender in Turkish languages,
words expressing gender have recently been formed with the influence of
foreign languages. Words expressing gender have emerged to express behaviour,
attitudes, habits, mental and physical characteristics, emotional
qualities, professions and areas of expertise. Of course, the perception of
gender is different in every language. The study aims to show how gender
differs between languages and cultures by bringing examples from
Azerbaijani Turkish, English and Russian and to determine what are the
thoughts and attitudes of different cultures in the context of gender, how
these are reflected in the shaping of gender roles and the differentiation of
individuals on the basis of gender.
