For Nizami Ganjavi Iskender represents the ideal ruler who unites
power and intellect. He conquers the world not with the sword alone,
but with science and justice. In Nizami’s depection, the Alexander of Makedonian
is a fighter against tyranny and ignorance builder of civilization and a
bringer of equality and fairness among nations. Thus, Nizami does not
present him as a Greek conqueror, but as a bearer of divine wisdom and a
symbol of Eastern englightenment. The information given by Nizami Ganjavi
about Alexander of Macedonian the Great in his poem “Iskendername” caused
many researchers to come to the conclusion that this information is just the
imagination of the poet. However, Nizami Ganjavi rejected the idea that all this
information in the poem is a product of the poet's imagination. The description
of the fight scenes in the work, the truthful transfer of historical events and the
meticulous display of the places described in the poem denied this view.
