Abstract

Sari Saltuk, a dervish who lived in the 13th century, and Ibn
Battuta, a traveler who lived in the 14th century, came to life in close
proximity to each other. Another common characteristic of the two is that
they dared to leave the comfort of their lives and leave deep memories
for both themselves and future generations. Each work formed by these
memories contains influences from their mujaddid. In travelogue-style
products, the fact that the author's decisions at each step have the potential
to produce different results makes these works more unique and original.
In this context, one of the two travelers who is the subject of the study
is Ibn Battuta, who was born in the Arab geography and reached many
places almost from the east to the west. The other is Sari Saltuk, who was
born in Anatolia but surpassed this geography with the traces he left, was
said to have been honored with miracles, and was known for his scientific
depth as well as his bravery. In this study, the two figures mentioned were
considered as travelers who set out with different geography and scientific
backgrounds, and it was aimed to focus on the different and parallel points in their lives and works. The article progressed with the source scanning
method. Analyses were made on two works, Seyahatname and Saltukname,
which provide detailed observation of Ibn Battuta's travels and the effect
of Sari Saltuk's traces on the geographies. As a result of the study, it
was concluded that Sari Saltuk and Ibn Battuta, despite having different
methods and styles, were recognized by the people in similar geographies
and caused their projections.
