Abstract

The article explores the historical and socio-cultural aspects of the
system of religious symbols through a sociological analysis. The study of
religious symbols is crucial for understanding the identity of a particular
community. The historical and socio-cultural description is particularly
relevant in Uzbekistan, where it has become a significant element in expressing
national identity during the years of independence. This allows
for the study of symbolic representations of religious affiliation that reflect
national identity. In sociological literature, the term “symbols” often
evokes the concept of culture. However, another aspect is evident in history
– “documented monuments.” Historical documents leave behind two
legacies: history and culture. Any monument is illuminated in the text of a
particular document, and secondly, the artistic taste of the Arabs instinctively
led them to prefer polychrome white monuments. The author focuses
on these aspects in their research, using the widely used “document
analysis” method in sociology to study the transformation of the problem
from one period to another, culminating in the impact of religious architecture
on identity in the modern world and its socio-cultural foundations
