Molla Yār Muhammed Namangāni, Tuhfetüʾl-ʾĀbidînAbstract
Tuhfetü’l-Ābidīn is a poetry collection by Molla Yār Muhammed Namangānī,
who was born in the XIXth century in Namangān. This work contains
Namangānī’s poems and serves as an important source shedding light on the
literary traditions of the period. The 108th page of the work is entirely dedicated
to Namangānī’s poems. These pages are among the most significant sections
reflecting the poet’s individual literary identity and artistic expression.
The study primarily focuses on these 108 pages, and the content of the work
has been thoroughly analyzed. Molla Yār Muhammed Namangānī used the
pen name “Muhlis” in his poems. This pen name is highlighted as an essential
part of Nemengānî’s literary identity. The work was obtained from the village
of “Hoşham” in the Badakhshan province, located in northern Afghanistan.
Badakhshan has been one of the key centers of Turkic-Islamic culture throughout
history and is known as a region where many literary works have been
produced. The texts in the work have been transcribed into the Latin alphabet.
This transcription was carried out to ensure that the work can be read
and understood by a broader audience. Transcribing it into the Latin alphabet
facilitates easier analysis of the work within contemporary Turkology studies.
After the transcription, the work was analyzed in terms of morphology (word
structure).
This process involved examining the structural features of the text,
suffixes, verb conjugations, and the historical development of the language.
Such analyses contribute to a better understanding of the historical dialects of
Turkish and reveal the linguistic structure of the period. This study is not only
a transcription and analysis of a literary work but also a research project that
uncovers the linguistic features of an important historical dialect, such as Chagatai
Turkish. The examination of this work helps us comprehend the cultural
and literary framework of the period while also revealing the developmental
process of the language.
