Semantic Transformation of Military Lexicon in Contemporary Media Discourse

Abstract

This article examines the semantic transformation of military
lexicon in contemporary media discourse from linguistic and pragmatic
perspectives. The study demonstrates that military lexical units in
creasingly function beyond their traditional semantic boundaries, acqu-
iring new contextual, metaphorical, and ideological meanings within
modern media communication. Through processes such as framing,
semantic extension, metaphorization, and contextual adaptation, media
discourse reconstructs the functional value of military vocabulary and
reshapes audience perception of political, social, and cultural realities.
The research further reveals that militarized language in media discourse
serves not only informative purposes but also persuasive and emotionally
influential functions, contributing to the construction of conflict-oriented
narratives and ideological positioning. The findings indicate that the
transformation of military terminology in media communication is a
dynamic and context-dependent phenomenon shaped by cognitive,
pragmatic, socio-political, and ideological factors. The article also
highlights the growing role of digital media environments in accelerating
the dissemination and reinterpretation of military and political lexicon in
global communicative space.
